Question:
|
Why can't I add user defined materials for use in specifying ANSI/ASME flanges?
|
|
Answer:
|
For ASME/ANSI B16.5 and B16.47 flanges,
COMPRESS permits using only those
materials that are actually listed in
these standards. This restriction
applies to long weld neck flanges (LWN)
and other "integral" forgings where the
standard flange is forged integrally
with the nozzle neck.
Materials for ASME/ANSI B16.5 and
B16.47 flanges are contained in a
database that is separate from the ASME
Section II materials database. The
flange database contains only those
materials listed in Tables 1A of the
flange standards. Materials cannot be
added to or removed from this database.
If a different material is approved
by Code Case or Interpretation for use
under B16.5 or B16.47, select a
listed material from the same material
group that the proposed material would
fall into. In this manner, the correct
pressure-temperature rating would be
applied in the COMPRESS model.
