Question:
|
Why do I get the message "For Class 150 flanges, ASME B16.5 para. 5.4.2 recommends gaskets to be in accordance
with Fig. E1, Group No. I"? What does this message mean?

|
Answer:
|
This message will always be
returned by COMPRESS whenever Class 150
flanges are specified. The message is
for information only and does not
indicate any particular design problem.
If the user does not wish the message
to appear, he can select the option
"Suppress warning messages" on the
Deficiencies dialog that appears when
the calculations are run. (Warning
messages can be restored using the Set
Mode Options dialog/Environment tab;
remove checkmark from "Suppress warnings
from deficiencies list").
The gasket selected in COMPRESS for
ANSI/ASME B16.5 and B16.47 flanges has
no effect upon the warning message or
upon the flange MAWP rating. The
selection in COMPRESS of gasket type for
standard flanges is not used for
calculation purposes, it is reported in
the Drafting program, Coster,
and exported in the XML data exchange
file.
Standard selection data is provided
for Flexitallic gaskets. No other gasket
manufacturers offered to make their
gasket information available in
electronic format suitable for inclusion
in COMPRESS. Users can add other gasket
types by clicking the "Edit Gasket List"
button and entering the necessary
information.
