Question:

Why am I sometimes unable to save COMPRESS files on a network drive?
|

Answer:
|
The occasional problem of re-saving files to a
network drive is a known issue with
the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC)
library used by COMPRESS and many other
Windows applications.
This problem has been reported by a
small number of COMPRESS users and seems
to be more common for users of Windows
2000.
Based on users' comments, we were
able to reproduce the problem on our
network. Because the problem stems from
the actual operating system interface
files provided by Microsoft,
there is little that we can do at this
time.
Some possible workarounds for this
problem include:
Option 1: Give the users full control
permissions for the network directory.
Option 2: The user can employ the file
save-as command. When the file save
dialog pops up, left-click on the old
file once to get the file name, then
right-click on the file and select
delete. Then when user clicks "okay",
they will not be overwriting a file and
they should not get the error, although
they will still be asked to confirm a
file overwrite that never happens.
