Question:
|
COMPRESS will not allow me to attach a
skirt to a transition (cone). Why? |
|
Answer:
|
Attaching the skirt to a cone will
induce additional discontinuity stresses
in the transition that are not addressed
by the elementary Code rules. Also,
buckling may be a consideration for this
detail of construction and, again, this
condition is not addressed by the
elementary Code rules. Consequently,
COMPRESS does not provide for this type
of construction.
However, the case of a support skirt
attached to the knuckle of a cone
results in a stress distribution that is
very similar to that for a skirt
attached to a bottom head. Based on this
similarity, we have an entry on our
program development list to add this
feature; this entry was added in May,
2007 (# 2635).
