Question:

I see there is a consideration for lethal service in the COMPRESS Design Settings Summary. Where is lethal service specified in COMPRESS?

Answer:

COMPRESS provides the option to specify "Lethal Service" within the ASME Codes dialog. To do this:

  1. Select Codes > ASME

    Codes Menu
  2. Check the box labeled "Lethal Service / Full RT" within the ASME Codes dialog

When this option is selected, the Settings Summary will indicate "Yes" for "Design for lethal service."

COMPRESS applies the considerations from Code paragraph UW-2(a) for lethal service. This includes full radiography (i.e.: only full RT can be selected when lethal service is specified), as well as some additional restrictions as described in UW-2(a).
