No. Each COMPRESS release contains all
previously-available Code Editions and Addenda
as well as the year's "new" Edition
or Addenda. For example, if you are using COMPRESS
build 6255 or later you can specify the 2007 Edition
of ASME Code as well as any Edition or Addenda from
1995 through A06. This provides the user with powerful
tools: you do not need multiple versions of software
installed in order to produce calculations to different
Codes, this allows users to work on "new"
vessels as well as on re-rates or modifications of existing
vessels. You need to select the ASME Code in COMPRESS in
only one location, COMPRESS will use the corresponding
ASME Code rules as well as the applicable material properties
from Section II, Part D.
In COMPRESS, the Code Edition/Addenda that a vessel is designed
to is a property of the "CW6" design file. You
design a vessel to a particular Edition/Addenda and save it.
That Edition/Addenda will always be used for that vessel
when the file is opened in any later COMPRESS update. You
can specify the Edition/Addenda for each file as desired.
There is also a default setting for new files. This is set
to the latest Code Edition/Addenda at Codeware but users
can specify an earlier Edition/Addenda as the default to be
used for new files if desired.
The ASME Code Edition or Addenda for
any COMPRESS file is set from the Codes\ASME menu option.
From the ASME Codes dialog (see below) select the desired
Edition/Addenda, and any other Code options, then click "OK".
Changing the ASME Code here causes both the Code rules
(from Section VIII) and allowable stresses (from Section II)
for that Edition or Addenda to be applied to the current vessel
or exchanger. No other changes are required and no additional
user input is needed when changing ASME Code Addenda for any
COMPRESS file.
A quick method of changing the ASME Code selection for an existing
file is to "right-click" the current Code selection on the Status
Bar at the lower right corner of the COMPRESS window and select
the desired Code; see below:
Some files, namely those created using an expired
COMPRESS key, may not be eligible to be updated to the latest
Edition of ASME Code. Such files would be restricted by the
rules presented in this document:
