    Build 6259 changes

    New Features
  • COMPRESS tabbed file view for multiple open files
A file tab feature is now available when multiple COMPRESS files are open. A tab for each open file is displayed at the bottom of the COMPRESS window. Clicking on a tab will immediately switch the view to the desired file. This feature may be activated or deactivated from the Options page of the Set Mode Options dialog. [6964]

  • Elliptical manways
COMPRESS now supports the design of elliptical manways. This option is available on the nozzle design dialog whenever the nozzle is specified as an Access opening. The orientation of the elliptical manway is limited to perpendicular or parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vessel. Common elliptical manway sizes can be saved using the Choose manway from list option. In addition, a user defined pressure rating and coincident temperature rating, supplied by the manufacturer, may be input. [3359]

  • Longitudinal loads and bolted covers
For vertical vessels, the equivalent pressure due to the weight and moment acting on the flanged joint is now included in the bolted cover bolt load determination. This affects both the bolted cover calculation and the calculation for a nozzle when attached to a bolted cover. [6314]

  • New MDMT rating options
Two new MDMT options are now available allowing greater flexibility in MDMT rating. It is now possible to deactivate consideration of the UCS-66.1 MDMT reduction and/or the UCS-68(c) MDMT reduction. These new option switches are located under the Codes\ASME menu. [7006]

  • Nozzle UG-37(a) - calculation of shell tr
COMPRESS now includes an option to include longitudinal shell loadings in the calculation of shell required thickness tr per UG-37(a). This option is listed in the Action / Set Mode / Nozzle 1 dialog. Selecting the Consider longitudinal stress in UG-37(a) shell 'tr' calculation option will cause COMPRESS to perform additional tr calculations for windward and leeward loadings. The largest calculated tr value from circumferential stress or longitudinal loading will be used in the area calculations. [7050]

  • Wind report for saddle supported vessels
For horizontal vessels, the wind report now includes an echo of the wind inputs and the calculation for the wind pressure used in the saddle analysis. Previously, the wind report stated, "Wind calculations are reported in the saddle report." [4844]

  • ASME Materials dialog sorting improvements
The materials displayed in the ASME Materials dialog can now be sorted and reverse-sorted by each field. Previously, they could only be sorted by Nominal Composition, Spec. No., and Page No. [7035]

  • Knowledgebase Articles By Topic webpage link
The COMPRESS Help menu now includes a link to the Knowledgebase Articles By Topic webpage. [7126]

  • Add a Group of Stiffener Rings dialog - Added Spin Control
A spin control is now present in the Add a Group of Stiffener Rings dialog to specify the Number of Rings in this Group. [7039]

COMPRESS now allows the user to click a button to change the dimensional sketch for an external chair skirt base ring. This additional sketch allows the user to distinguish between the compression plate length and width. [1522]

  • Appendix 1-10 check for variable thickness nozzles
For type 9 or 10 variable thickness nozzles classified as large openings per UG-36(b)(1) and analyzed per Appendix 1-10, the equations specific to variable thickness nozzles are no longer used if the same thickness is input for the heavy barrel and thin portion of the nozzle neck. [7099]

  • Appendix 1-10 large openings under external pressure
The Appendix 1-10 check for large openings under external pressure now takes the allowable stress for the primary local membrane stress (PL) as 1.5 times the lesser of the allowable compressive stress per UG-23 or the allowable tensile stress. Previously, the allowable stress for the external pressure case did not include the 1.5 factor. [6954]

  • Appendix 2 pair of split ring flanges
COMPRESS now displays an additional split ring in the 3D graphic when Split Loose flanges "pair of split rings" option is selected. Previously, COMPRESS would one split ring even if the "pair of split rings" option was selected. [7037]

  • Appendix 2 reverse flanges
A warning is now reported for Appendix 2 reverse flanges when flange factor K = A / B' is greater than 2. The warning states, Appendix 2-13(a): Mandatory use of Appendix 2 for Reverse Flanges is limited to K ≤ 2. When K > 2, results become increasingly conservative and U-2(g) may be used. [7078]

  • Arithmetic operators now supported when entering data
COMPRESS now supports the use of arithmetic operators when entering numbers into input fields. Multiplication (*), division (/), addition (+) and subtraction (-) operators are supported. In addition, COMPRESS continues to support the feet (') and inches (") symbols for dimensional inputs. For instance, a length of 6 feet 8 inches (6'-8") may now be entered as inches in two ways: 6'8" or 6*12 + 8 [6966]

  • ASME B16.5/B16.47 MDMT rating
When impact tested material per UG-84 is specified for an ASME B16.5\B16.47 flange, the MDMT rating is now determined as the lower (colder) of the impact test temperature specified per the material specification or the rated MDMT determined per the Code rules (e.g. UCS-66 rules). [6999]

  • Auto nethasp.ini file configuration
COMPRESS now automatically configures the nethasp.ini file. After successfully logging onto a NetHASP License Manager for the first time, COMPRESS will record the network key server IP address/name in the nethasp.ini file in an effort to enhance network performance. In cases where there are multiple NetHASP License Managers running on a network, nethasp.ini configuration is necessary to ensure reliable COMPRESS operation. [7150]

  • Bolted cover - Figure UG-34 sketch (k)
For bolted covers with grooves for peripheral gaskets, a thickness check is now performed under the groove or between the groove and the outer edge of the bolted cover. [7070]

  • Clip warning - WRC-107 limitation exceeded
A warning deficiency is now reported if the clip length to width ratio exceeds the WRC-107 limitation of 1:4 or 4:1. When the WRC-107 limitation is exceeded the ratio used in the analysis is limited to 1:4 or 4:1 as applicable. [7076]

  • COMPRESS Help menu
The COMPRESS Help menu has been rearranged to provide easier access to the various help tools. [6707]

  • Context sensitive help - relevant section
Pressing the 'F1' key will now open the COMPRESS manual to the relevant section of the component that is being designed or modified. Previously, for several components, the COMPRESS manual would open to the Cylinder section of the COMPRESS manual for different components such as transitions, ellipsoidal heads, F & D heads, hemi heads, bolted covers, welded covers and Appendix 2 flanges. [5517]

  • Dished cover report
ASME Section II Part D page and line numbers are now reported for the flanged portion of the dished cover. [7003]

  • Ear lug hole diameter check
A dialog warning is now presented if the ear lug hole diameter exceeds 1/3 the lug diameter. Previously, the designer could not proceed with the design until this check, intended to prevent shear tear out, was satisfied. [7056]

  • FEA - nozzles attached to dished covers
FEA is no longer permitted for nozzles attached to dished covers. Previously, the analysis was incorrectly performed using a cylinder as the parent component. [7138]

  • Figure UG-34 sketch (d) welded cover
A deficiency is now issued if the dimensional limitations in UG-34(d) sketch (d) are not met. [6790]

  • Flanges subject to lethal service

  • Full metric report for flat bolted covers
The bolted cover calculations now report all equations in consistent metric units instead of the previous dual unit reporting. [6952]

  • Full metric report for support lugs
The support lug calculations now report values in consistent metric units instead of the previous dual unit reporting. [6953]

  • Full metric report for transition juncture calculations
The cone juncture calculations for transitions now report all values in consistent metric units instead of the previous dual unit reporting. [5838]

  • Full metric report for welded covers
The welded cover calculations now report all values in consistent metric units instead of the previous dual unit reporting. [6951]

  • Liquid level access button on main screen
A liquid level button, that appears when a liquid level is defined, has been added to the main vessel screen. This provides a quick way to access the liquid level dialog consistent with the method used for linings, insulation, packed beds and trays. [6756]

  • Metric reporting issue for supports
For metric units, the skirt, leg, lug, and base plate equations have been modified so the moment value matches the units listed in the wind and/or seismic report. Previously, the moment value was adjusted to account for a factor that was built into the equation for to provide an English conversion of lb-ft to lb-in. This is a reporting change only and does not affect the final results. [7065]

  • NBC wind and seismic code location synchronization
The Wind and Seismic dialogs will now offer to automatically set the NBC Location for a new NBC Wind (or Seismic) code if a corresponding NBC Seismic (or Wind) code is already present on the vessel. The NBC edition years must match between the Wind and Seismic codes for the synchronization to proceed. [7026]

  • New warning deficiency for Appendix 2 flange
The Deficiencies Report now includes a warning for any Appendix 2 Flanges on a vertical vessel with no support component. The warning states, "The hydrostatic end force on this Appendix 2 flange cannot be determined until a vessel support component is specified." [7011]

  • Nozzle detailed report
The user specified radial limits of reinforcement and local vessel thickness are now echoed in the nozzle detailed report if input. [7004]

  • Nozzle internal fillet weld warning
A warning deficiency is now reported if the internal fillet weld throat dimension is less than the internal corrosion allowance specified. [7073]

  • Nozzle Plan View Dialog changes
The nozzle Plan View Dialog, accessible through the Nozzle Details Dialog for nozzles located on heads, now more accurately displays nozzle pads. In addition, the dialog now displays the outer nozzle diameter. Previously, nozzle pads were always shown to be circular, even in cases where they were elliptical in shape, such as for a nozzle in the Perpendicular configuration. [7140]

  • Nozzle Report - Figure UG-40 reference for variable thickness nozzles
For variable thickness nozzles, Figure UG-40 dictates how the value te is determined for the limits of reinforcement calculation. The nozzle detailed report now indicates which sketch was used in the section title. For example, Limits of reinforcement per UG-40 and Fig. UG-40 sketch (e-1) is now reported. [7107]

  • Nozzle report - internal projection
An additional line detailing the nozzle internal projection is now listed in the input echo section of the report in order to clarify that the hnew variable is the internal projection value. [7105]

  • Nozzle report - UG-41 reference
The detailed nozzle report now includes the phrase "UG-41" in the Weld Failure Path Analysis Summary report title. [7101]

  • NozzlePRO manual now included
The NozzlePRO manual is now installed with COMPRESS and can be accessed through the Help menu. FEA Nozzles, now included in COMPRESS, is a subset of the PRG NozzlePRO program and so shares common calculation methods and reports. [7015]

  • Numeric precision in metric reports
The metric reports for cylinders, transitions and hemi heads have been changed to show two significant digits for calculated thickness values. Reported values also no longer include trailing zeros. [6905]

  • Pressure summary - impact test
The Impact Test column title in the Pressure Summary has been changed to Impact Tested. This was done to clarify that the column indicates whether or not impact testing has been specified not if it is required per Code rules. [7029]

  • Pressure summary - pad impact test
The Pressure Summary report has been reorganized to provide information for nozzles and nozzle pads separately. The MDMT Exemption notes for nozzles and pads have been separated. The report now explicitly lists if the pad material has been impact tested. [7028]

  • Saddle reporting - NBC Canada seismic code
Added a clarification to the Seismic section of the Saddle report that states "Wp" is the weight of the vessel and not the width of the wear plate. [7027]

  • Seismic report VAccel table note
A new note now appears below the VAccel table in the Seismic Report when lateral forces are present on a vessel. Note that the "Consider Vertical Accelerations" option in the Seismic Dialog must be checked for the table to appear. The text of the note reads, "Seismic base shears used in calculation of VAccel Term do not include lateral forces." This is an informative reminder only; no calculation changes were made. [6340]

  • Skirt base ring dialog addition
A spin control is now present in the skirt base ring dialog when specifying the number of bolts. [7042]

  • Stainless steel pipe look up
Schedule 40S and 80S pipe designations are now available in the nozzle Standard Size Look Up option for NPS 14" to 30" excluding NPS 22" and 30". Schedules 40S and 80S are not list in ASME B36.19M 2004 for NPS 22" and 30". [7090]

  • Support lugs input error
Entering a value of zero (or less) for the support lug Lug Length and exiting the dialog would cause an overflow error in COMPRESS. COMPRESS now prevents users from entering a Lug Length less than or equal to zero. [6135]

  • UCS-66 impact test requirement for castings
Impact testing is now enforced for castings not listed in Figure UCS-66 Notes (1) and (2). This requirement is listed in Figure UCS-66 note (f). [6958]

  • UG-116(e) marking - RT4 for welded pipe
Per ASME Interpretation VIII-1-07-10, the UG-116(e) marking is now designated as RT-4 for a shell made from ERW pipe that is welded to seamless dished heads where the head-to-shell circumferential seams are radiographed in accordance with UW-11(a) (FULL). [6698]

  • UG-41 strength of reinforcement - nozzle in a pipe cylinder
The lower groove weld size used in the UG-41 weld strength calculation is now reduced by 12.5% when the nozzle is attached to a cylinder constructed from pipe. This change is consistent with the ASME Code's conservative assumption that the nozzle is located in the thinned p
