He is currently a member of the External Pressure Committee, the Heat Transfer Equipment (Section VIII) Committee and the Subgroup on Toughness (SC II & SC VIII). He is a former member of the Special Working Group - Bolted Flanged Joints (SC-D) and the Post Construction Subcommittee on Repair and Testing.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for individuals involved with pressure vessel design and rating. This course is ideal for individuals with little or no experience working with the ASME Code and/or COMPRESS as well as those who require a quick refresher. If you are a beginner, this course will provide a jump start to your learning. If you already have some experience, this course will provide a general review and perhaps cover areas you have not thoroughly studied.

What You Will Learn

ASME Section VIII, Division 1 Scope and Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with the scope of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 as well as users' and manufacturers' responsibilities

General Requirements. Develop a more thorough understanding of the design rules for:

  • Cylinders, dished heads, conical heads, flat covers and opening reinforcement for internal and external pressure
  • External loadings, including wind and seismic
  • Appendix 2 flanges
  • Part UHX tubesheets (brief discussion)

Design Requirements for Welded Vessels

  • Welded joint categories and welded joint types
  • RT and UT examination and joint efficiencies

Material Requirements

  • Postweld heat treatment
  • Impact testing requirements

Introduction to COMPRESS

  • Menus and defaults
  • Creating models
  • Performing calculations and reviewing reports

Hands-On Use of COMPRESS

  • COMPRESS will be used throughout the course to demonstrate the application of the design rules

What to Bring

  • ASME Section VIII, Division 1 of the Code Book (if you access your Code Book electronically, please email to find out which pages you should print and bring)
  • A hand held calculator (recommended)
  • Laptops with required software are provided during the course (wireless internet is available at our training facility if you choose to bring your own laptop)
