Hillside Nozzle Design With COMPRESS
Due to process and pipe routing considerations, nozzles on cylinders are frequently placed in a non-radial (hillside) orientation. In these cases COMPRESS automatically determines the governing plane of reinforcement taking into account the F factor (Fig. UG-37) and the chord length. The chord length is automatically calculated for you.

Work with Multiple ASME Section VIII Code Addenda
New ASME VIII projects typically require that you use the Addenda in force at the time your contract is signed. When re-rating existing vessels and exchangers the NBIC allows you to use either the ASME VIII (Division 1 or 2) Code of construction or the latest ASME Addenda. Whether you're dealing with new construction or re-rating existing equipment your company probably enters into new contracts every year, some of which may take years to complete. Since most companies work with more than one Code Addenda at the same time, COMPRESS includes a unique Multiple ASME Code Addenda Feature. Read More...

Check ASME Vessel and Exchanger Stresses Before Testing
The ASME Code requires that all vessels undergo hydro (or pneumatic) testing following fabrication and before Code stamping. As this test provides mechanical stress relief it may be thought of as the final step in the fabrication process. The hydro test is an effective way to screen for design, material and fabrication deficiencies as well as to prove the structural integrity of the equipment. However, this raises the question - what constitutes a hydro test "design deficiency"? Although ASME Section VIII-1 does not prescribe a test stress limit, vessels that undergo "objectionable distortion" during testing may be rejected by your AI. Find out how the COMPRESS Hydro Test Feature can assist you. Read More...

Perform FEA on Nozzles
Welding Research Council Bulletins WRC-107 and WRC-297 are widely used by Engineers to investigate piping (and other) loads on nozzles within COMPRESS. COMPRESS overcomes the WRC Bulletins' limitations by including a finite element analysis (FEA) tool for nozzles. Read More...

Design ASME Vessels, Exchangers in Metric Units
If you're using metric plate, you need to design using metric units. To accommodate jurisdictions that do not use U.S. Customary units, the ASME introduced metric design values throughout Section VIII as well as a Metric Edition of Section II, Part D. Converting a U.S. Customary design to metric at the end does not typically produce the same result as designing with metric units from start to finish. COMPRESS makes it easy to create Code compliant designs in the system of units you require. Read More...
